Bankfield Community Food growing project

You wouldn’t think that there was much to be excited about in gardening terms on a cold wet winters day, but for us the fact that another food growing site has opened in Bolton and we have been invited to help out with it is a great cause for excitement.

The site itself is situated in the Deane area of Bolton and is sandwiched between social housing and hidden from the main road. So our work today on this new site has been planting overwintering garlic, onions, broad beans, and some blackcurrent cuttings from our Willow Hey site. Throughout the course of the day around twenty people turned up, not a bad start really despite the bad weather. We would like to wish this new community growing the very best of luck, and you have our support if it is ever needed again the future. And as we always say about sites like this in areas of high economic deprivation places like this give local people the chance to grow some of their own and learn new skills, which is no bad thing when faced with an uncertain future.
