Beechcroft community allotments: Growing for uncertain times ahead

Beechcroft community allotment site has raised beds that have either been neglected or given up, so rather than allowing them to go unused we have been clearing the raised beds and planting overwintering crops in them. I began this work a few weeks ago and managed to clear and plant in three of the beds. Today is different as I was helped out by Community development worker Carl who has supported the Growing projects in Breightmet throughout all of this year. So today has been all about weeding, clearing, and towards the end of the day planting. In 2016 we should expect a huge crop of onions, garlic and broad beans which will be distributed a groups working who are working with alleviating food poverty, some of will also go toward supporting the cooking groups which are held regularly in Breightmet. By the end of the day we had cleared and planted four lage raised beds with overwintering crops. A big thank you to Carl Monk for his invaluable help today.
