Red Lane community allotments update 4th Nov

This morning we worked on the Red Lane community allotment site in Breightmet. Our work consisted of carrying over two large raised beds from the New Lane Hub site and filling them with soil before planting on dozens of overwintering garlic cloves. By lunch time we had managed to fill the beds with around two tons of soil, adding greater growing capacity to the site for next year.

Our work leading up to Christmas will mainly be concerned with getting the whole of the Red Lane and Beechcroft sites ready for the next growing season in 2016, this will consist of weeding, clearing and a little planting on of overwintering produce. It is absolutely vital that we up the production of food in both areas due to the increasing spread of poverty in both areas.
