Beechcroft Community allotments: An afternoon Mushroom foraging

We met up at Beechcroft community allotment site at twelve today and headed off in search of damp dark woodland there would be a strong likelyhood of finding fungus growing. For the first hour we found nothing, but as we descended further into the damp and dark our luck changed and patches of fungus and mushrooms suddenly started to appear. Col Unsworth a friend of ours led today’s session and filled us all with useful tips on identifying different types of fungus and generally what signs to look out for on different parts of the mushroom. By the time the session had ended we had gathered enough mushrooms for Sarah, one of Beechcroft plot holders to make an omelette with. So all in all a good day, and a huge thank you to Col for sharing his knowledge of mushrooms and fungus with us all.
