Community Roots project update May 27th

After the searing heat of working in Breightmet yesterday, its back to the usual grey skies and slow moving clouds of Great Lever where our project site is based. After myself and Chris Wood arrived at the site, Karen our oldest gardener turned up shortly afterwards, we gave Karen some leeks for her garden and arranged to go over to spend some time with her, in her home garden next week. It was also great to see the return of Richard Wood who also runs his project from our site where he helps people with learning difficulties to garden, Richard has not been well of late, and we all wish him well and hope for a speedy recovery so that he can return to the site and engage in his passion.

This weeks work mainly consisted of planting out around a hundred Leeks, four courgette plants, and to aid the work of the bees and other pollinators thousands of diverse flower seed varieties. It was great to see that there were already dozens of bees all over the flowers of the chives at the bottom of the site. chives
